I have decided to have my clubs custom fit instead of buying new golf clubs off the shelves. I am having my irons tweaked and a custom built driver.
Today was just the measurement day since it was too cold to do any swinging in the clubfitters garage. He had me sit through and write down all of the measurements while he did them which was pretty time consuming but I learned some things about clubfitting. We did the lie angle, loft, length, weight, and frequency.
One thing he does is makes your 9 iron, pw, gw, sw, and lw all the same length. He said that most people bend over to far on their wedges and at my height (5'11) he said I was bending over too far with them.
When we were doing measurements on my Nike Sasquatch driver that I purchased from a retail store I was very surprised as it was built very carelessly. It is actually a 10.5 degree(says 9.5 on it) and it is 44.75 inches. When we placed it on the frequency machine it was going in circles instead of straight left to right which means the shaft was not lined up correctly.
As for the stiffness of my clubs they varied as well. All of my irons were extra stiff and they say stiff on the shafts. My 3W is between stiff and extra stiff but it says stiff on the shaft. My driver is stiff and it says stiff on the shaft.
We also measured my grip size.
Overall it was a great learning experience and I am going back to swing on the launch monitor.
Stay tuned for part 2.
