Question:
I am a beginner golfer and have been slicing the ball. Are there any drills to cure this problem?
Jaacob's Answer:
Regarding your slice, somehow or another the club is arriving back at impact open. To get it square, here are few suggestions:
1) At setup, start out with a slightly stronger grip (rotate the hands clockwise to the right). Just a small turn can make a difference.
2) At address, start the club out closed. That way, when you arrive back at impact, the club will come back square. This assumes that you makes the exact same swing as when you start out with the club square and it comes back open.
3) Look into equipment that aids in mitigating and/or eliminating slices. For example, buy a driver that is a degree or two closed.
4) Practice making slower and smaller swings to get the feel of how the hands must come back down to be square and hit a straight ball flight...even if it's just a quarter driver swing. As soon as you can train that feeling with a smaller swing, make the swing bigger and bigger until you can get the club back square with a full swing.
